Old Bethpage Village Restoration hosted a Cowboy Mounted Shooting Match on Sunday, August 16, 2009. Cowboy Mounted Shooting is a fast growing equestrian sport. Mounted contestants compete in this fast action timed event using two .45 caliber single action revolvers each loaded with five rounds of specially prepared blank ammunition. Mounted Shooting is similar to barrel racing with balloons in between the barrels. The rider shoots black powder blank cartridges from .45 caliber pistols, at balloons, and is scored on accuracy and time
